The Department of Wood Science (Faculty of Forestry) at the University of British Columbia is seeking candidates for an endowed Associate Chair in Wood Building Design and Construction. Candidates must have demonstrated the clear potential to achieve excellence in research, teaching and technology transfer in the design and construction of wood-based structures.
Position details
The Associate Chair holder will be a major contributor to a multidisciplinary team addressing all aspects of the design and construction of wood-based buildings. The Associate Chair holder is expected to specialize in timber structures and contribute expertise to assist a team developing the holistic designs of timber structures by considering the interactions among the structural, architectural, building physics, energy efficiency, environmental and green building requirements.
Applicants are expected to hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD in a related field. Candidates with international experience, and proven excellence or outstanding research potential in Structural Engineering or Building Science as well as a commitment to quality teaching are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will engage in undergraduate and graduate education, develop a personal research program and collaborate with members of the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Wood Science and the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing. The successful candidate will also be required to interact with the wood products industry and the design community to integrate and further develop expertise in this area. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a globally significant program at a leading North American university. Registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists in BC or ability to do so in the future will be an asset.
This is tenure-track position and the appointment will be effective July 1, 2018, but a later date may be arranged. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. All University of BC positions are subject to final budgetary approval.
